Updike interview

John Updike's interview in the June 26, 2006 issue of the Time magazine makes for good reading. He pictures himself as an insider dissident, someone who is unhappy with the way things are in America, but who is not willing to abandon America for all that. Perhaps that is what a writer is supposed to be -- an insider dissident.
