What home minister P.Chidambaram said on Delhi blasts and terrorism on Sept 9

Home Minister P.Chidambaram was serious as always, defensive yet firm. This sure opens him to attack from the opposition but there is need to pay attention to what he had to say. It is a weak defense, perhaps but there are also the facts.

These are the points he had made:

All leads are being pursued.

The Kishtwar cybercafe was located and we have identified and taken the man who sent the first email.

Everyone has to remain on alert. Everyone – he or she – has to report after seeing a suspicious object.

India is too vast a country.

We have recruited 1,00,000 to the central para-military forces.

The states have recruited 1,00,000 in 2010.

The central forces will recruit another 1,00,000.

There are still 5,00,000 to 6,00,000 posts which remain to be filled.

There has been accumulated negligence, and we have been trying to rectify this since 26.11.

It will take time to build capacity.

Everyone has to chip in – railways, cinema hall owners.

We must learn to be disciplined.

We have to learn to take risky decision.

Delhi PWD had to cancel the tenders for CCTV thrice.

I have not hesitated to take decisions.

If only Delhi PWD had taken the decision. It hesistated. Risk-averse. Constantly look over one's shoulder.

Aug 15 to December risky, difficult period.

We will do our best.

An average policeman remains on his feet 14 hours a day.

A BSF jawan sleeps in two short spells of three hours each.

A ITBP is holed up in a small cabin for six months in a year at a height og 15,000 feet.

All I want to tell the people of the country is we are doing our best. I will do my utmost.

We will recruit, buy the best of equipment and buld training institutes.

Security of India is a shared responsibility between the people and government.

Six episodes which my friend Arun Jaitley has mentioned:

Karnataka – Chinnaswamy Stadium explosion – Karnataka police is investigating.

Varanasi blast – UP police is investigating.

Pune case has been solved. Seven have been chargesheeted.

I spoke to Maharashtra chief minister a few minutes ago.

There was good success in Batla House. It has virtually neutralised many attacks.

I was not heckled at RML. A large number of families came to me at RML. They pured out their angst. As a public representative, I listened to them

If I had been heckled, I would not have minded. Arun has been out of power for too long.

Trying to identify the material. PETN is a nitrate.

Every organisation is a suspect.

Every time there is a terror attack, we cannot point fingers at those across the border. The HuJI has not much of a presence in the country. We have to come to terms with the fact that there are Indian modules.
