Bewakoofian: a heartwarming tale; Queen: pretentious and muddled

Most of the critics this week gave the laurel to Kangana Ranaut and Queen, and dsimissed Bewakoofian. As always, the critics are wrong. Kangana Ranaut is a sensitive actress, but in this movie she has let her histrionics kill her naturalness and her disarming simplicity.Kangana Ranaut should not try suppresss her natural charm and play these so-called true-to-life characters. In a recent interview Ranaut said that she cannot go back to the glamorous roles of Hindi cinema and she has found her niche in the peudo-realist films. She is captivating and she can play a romantic role with enough zest. Queen fails because the story is quite unconvincing at every stage. In the attempt to portray the Rajouri Garden crowd, the film director, Vikas Bahl, has in reality mocked them. The break-up just before the marriage ceremony is plausible enough. What beats logic is the particular experience of the character Kangana plays in Paris and Amsterdam. It is replete with improbabilities as it shows Kangana wading through the harmless down-and-out life in the two cities, meeting with other untethered people like her. It is much too contrived and the affirmative message of the movie does not have the emotional appeal. Kangana Ranaut picks up her natural self in the last half-hour of the movie. It would have been wonderful if she had been herself through the film.

Bewakoofiyan has three very good stars -- Rishi Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor and Ayushman Khurana. And they also act very well. Sonam Kapoor is bubbly and sensitive, Ayushman Khurana shows that he is one of the most natural actors on the scene. Rishi Kapoor just walks through the film with aplomb. Bewakoofiyan is more realistic that Queen in that it shows the real ways of the young people, their innocent pleasures, their heartbreaks and frustrations and their loyalties. The simple love song picturised on Sonam Kapoor and Ayushman Khurana in Connaught Place (Block D) is nice though it is not romantic enough because the song is so lacklustre. But Bewakoofiyan displays emotional integrity of the characters much better than that of the characters in the Queen.

I think I agree that Kangana is an actress to watch when she is her own natural self. Wish she picks up the tip.

Sonam Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor and Ayushman Khurana are all wonderful actors. Must see this film. waiting for a review, as some where a sixth sense was saying this should be good, by the very Title and the 3 very good actors being in it.
